Rhythmbox EQ update!

Update: Today RBEQ 1.3 was released.  Find it on the google code page.

Yes, a month plus later than expected, RBEQ version 1.1 is out. :)

Updates since the last release:

  • The window for the equalizer no longer wrests control away from Rhythmbox itself.  This makes it easier to change the EQ and play with volume and songs to get things working optimally.
  • Added GConf hooks to allow persistent states for the equalizer between sessions.  Most requested feature from the previous release.
  • Full base-code rewrite, much cleaner to work with and understand.

Next up, adding a load-save functionality to the EQ so that you can swap settings on the fly.

As always, the download is located here, and the install instructions are the same.

Download from http://rbeq.googlecode.com

Installation instructions:

  • Open a terminal, and enter this:

tar -xvzf rbeq-1.3.tar.gz -C ~/.gnome2

  • That’s it!  You’re set.

Hope that this release is as popular as the last.

Chris

This is great thanks! Was using the last versions and the saved state feature was the only feature I really missed.

Hello, thanks for this eq. Unfortunately, I can’t install it. I’m new to Ubuntu, so I’m not sure if I did the correct thing. I downloaded the .tar file to my desktop and followed your instructions above (did a copy and paste into the terminal), and then the terminal gave me this error:

    waltersfield@waltersfield-desktop:~$ tar -xvzf rbeq-1.1.tar.gz -C ~/.gnome2
tar: rbeq-1.1.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
    tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Do you have any suggestions? Many thanks! -Eric

    Eric –

When you use the line to install the tarball, you have to call the program at the directory containing the file. In your case, since you downloaded it to the desktop, it would be at /home/(username)/Desktop/rbeq-1.1.tar.gz. You can change directories to the desktop (`cd Desktop` in the terminal) beforehand, and it should work.

    Cheers,

    Chris

thanks for the eq… i went to try songbird just for the eq and songbird has done too many things to my computer to have made it worth it… this is great and i have liked rhythmbox since last year when i started up my unbuntu for the first time. and i will also add that i actually have gotten “wontgoes xp” free.

Great work. But you forgot to mention which license you are using.

excellent, but you want the personal salvamento positions more than Rock, Pop, Classic, Jazz, etc. …

Awesome. Agreed presets would be good but doing it by ear is just as fun

You did a fantastic job with this! I can’t believe how well it works with such a simple install.

Is this written in C? Can I help you implement setting/saving presets? Or at least a “reset all to 0″ feature? Send me an email if I can help in any way.

    I’m an idiot…rhythmbox/plugins/rbeq/equalizer.pyc

Clearly written in python…I’m going to hack on this a bit tonight!

Ahhh, Rhythmbox equalizer with load-save functionality. I can’t wait. :)
I hope it’ll handle Winamp or foobar2000 presets.

Nice! Thank you. Songbird was running heavy on my netbook. With your EQ there is no need for songbird anymore.
